Maria, Full of Grace
As art galleries continue to jump on the design bandwagon, New York's Lehmann Maupin is collaborating with Demisch Danant to present "Maria Pergay: New Work" at both venues. The 15 pieces prove that this Parisian designer hasn't lost her touch since the 1960's, when she made a splash at Galeri Maison et Jardin, or the 1970's, when she completed furniture and interiors commissions for Saudi Arabian royalty.
Through the years, Pergay has juxtaposed traditional luxury materials in unexpected ways. One example is a 2005 marqeutry console where palm wood, ebony, bone, and hand-case bronze contrast with stainless steel. March 30-April 29; 212-255-2923; lehmannmaupin.com; 212-989-5750; demischdanant.com.
