John Baldessari
Paul McCarthy
Félix González-Torres
Ed Ruscha
Anish Kapoor
Jeff Wall
Mike Kelley
Christopher Wool
Andrea Zittel
Patrick Painter began publishing editions in 1991 from Vancouver and Hong Kong in order to provide artists the opportunity to create editions in more interesting and varied mediums. As artists increasingly make work in editions, Painter collaborates with artists treating these projects with as much significance as work coming directly from their studios. Patrick Painter Editions has published over 60 projects with many of the most well-established contemporary artists.
Among the projects exhibited at Lehmann Maupin will be John Baldessari’s painted photographs of National City, Ed Ruscha’s series of photographs of swimming pools recalling his early study of gas stations, and Andrea Zittel’s Living Unit carpets dealing with movement in domestic space. Mike Kelley has worked with Painter to produce his most important editions several of which will be exhibited including his interactive project which uses his collection of kindergartners’ drawings and asks viewers to enter into a computer program their interpretation of what the image reveals about the children’s psychology.
Patrick Painter Gallery was opened in August 1997 in Los Angeles to build on his work done with artists in creating editions. He plans to exhibit projects done on a larger scale working with such artists as Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy and Larry Clark. Currently at his gallery is work by artist/filmmaker Harmony Korine related to his new film Gummo.
