Lehmann Maupin would like to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Casey Cook. This is Cook's second solo exhibition at Lehmann Maupin. Please note the gallery's new location and contact information.
Cook's most recent paintings have a whimsical quality, while still retaining the sense of mystery present throughout much of her previous work. Color - creamy pinks and flesh tones - is an important element in her new work. Sprawling messages are contained within the tender balance of her compositions, where scattered block letters may be read as individual forms or placed together to create a cryptic question. In this reinvestigation of geometric abstraction, Cook's composition of repeated shapes, trompe l'oeil effects and subtle color shifts are held together in a manner reminiscent of an ephemeral moment.
Casey Cook received her BFA from the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles in 1994 and in 1997 earned her MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has since had solo exhibitions in both Los Angeles and New York and has participated in international group exhibitions. After a residency at Internationale Cite des Artes in Paris, Cook now lives and work in New York.
