A seminal figure in New York’s East Village scene, Ashley Bickerton was one of the original members of the group of artists that became known as “Neo-Geo”, and remains an influential figure with a younger generation of artists. During his residency at STPI in 2005, Bickerton created collages on paper featuring monstrous heads emerging from water in a pool strewn with various consumer culture refuse, meticulously hand cut from printed imagery reconfigured from Bickerton’s elaborate photography.
