Born in Switzerland, Bucher (1926–1993) moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s, where she became friends with artist Edward Kienholz. She was included in a 1972 exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum, in which she showed a series of wearable sculptures created in tandem with her husband. A few years later, she returned to Switzerland, where she began to make a series of latex castings of architectural interiors and details, anticipating the work of British artist Rachel Whiteread. The Swiss Institute takes a look back at Bucher's work, in her first American show in more than 40 years.
