Who knew the shaven-headed leading man was also a master lensman? Here's the stunning (and star-studded) visual proof
GQ fashion director Madeline Weeks on Victoria Brynner's Yul Brynner: A Photographic Journey, a soon-to-be-released, 4-volume boxed set of photo books:
"There's a gorgeous set of books coming out from Yul Brynner's archives later this month—pictures he took on movie sets as well as fun, relaxed moments on- and off-screen with his Hollywood buddies from the '50s and '60s. I love looking at their amazing style, which we're still strongly influenced by today. It's so cool to see these guys goofing off and hanging out or working on a scene. Such iconic moments. I especially love the shots of Robert Mitchum, William Holden, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Roman Polanski, Liz Taylor... Of course they've all been photographed thousands of times, but these feel warm and intimate. Yul Brynner, like Dennis Hopper and Roddy McDowall and Jeff Bridges, had a keen photographic eye. We put together some of our favorites for you to check out. The set of four books from Yul's daughter, Victoria Brynner, will be a collector's item, for sure."
And opening Sunday, September 12 at the Lehmann/Maupin Gallery in New York: An exhibition of Yul Brynner's photographic work.
