Lehmann Maupin, in collaboration with Anonymous Was A Woman, is pleased to present a panel discussion on the political act of art-making as a woman. Featuring artists Judith Bernstein, Betty Tompkins, Cecilia Vicuña, and Susan Unterberg, founder of Anonymous Was A Woman, the conversation will be moderated by Anna Stothart, Curatorial Director at Lehmann Maupin.
Anonymous Was A Woman is an unrestricted grant of $25,000 awarded to women artists over 40 years of age and at a significant juncture in their career. The Award recognizes an artist's accomplishments, artistic growth, and potential, and is intended to provide substantial support to the continued growth of the artist's practice. Founded in 1996 in response to National Endowment of the Arts' decision to cease support of individual artists, Anonymous Was a Woman has awarded over $5.8 million to 230 women artists.
Each year, an outstanding group of distinguished women – art historians, curators, writers and previous winners from across the country – serve as nominators. To date, over 600 have participated.
