Lehmann Maupin is pleased to present a conversation between Mirjam Varadinis, Curator at Kunsthaus Zürich, and Kader Attia, whose practice deals with Europe and the western world’s colonial past and its consequences. Opening August 21, 2020, Kunsthaus Zürich will present Kader Attia: Remembering the Future, the artist’s first solo exhibition in German-speaking Switzerland, curated by Varadinis. Attia grew up in Paris and Algeria. His experience with two distinct cultures has propelled Attia’s intercultural and interdisciplinary approach to research, particularly the construction of cultural identities within the context of colonial domination and conflict, as well as violence and loss. As a result, the notion of Repair has become central to his practice. These themes find special relevance in light of recent calls for dramatic changes to social policy worldwide.
