Fairs: Art HK's strong line-up
The lure of the Far East's robust economy and emerging art market continues apace with the tenth edition of Art HK. The impressive dealer-roster includes newcomers Hauser & Wirth, Sperone Westwater and Marianne Boesky, who will join returning galleries including Gagosian, Lehmann Maupin and Emmanuel Perrotin from 27 to 30 May. The city's Freeport status is a major incentive for western gallerists, who are not subject to import and export duties, nor to sales tax on works sold at the fair. "This year we are really asserting ourselves as a major player," said director Magnus Renfrew. The fair aims to provide a platform for Asian galleries, with non-Western dealers comprising 60% of the line-up. "The world is changing before our eyes," said Renfrew, revealing that stand prices are $500 per sq. m. "We want to reflect the new world order." C.B.
